Montreal filmmaker and writer Sharon Hyman has been making what she calls autodocumentaries since her teens, using humour and candour to show a side of the female psyche not typically seen in mainstream media. She produces, writes, directs, shoots, and edits her films — and also stars in them!

Most recently, her film project APARTNERS: LIVING HAPPILY EVER APART has attracted international attention, landing her on the cover of The Wall Street Journal and within its pages on three separate occasions. Considered an expert on the topic of “Living Apart Together” relationships, or what she has coined “apart-ners” (partners living apart), The NBC Today Show site credits Hyman with being

“at the forefront of a social movement that introduces couples to new ways of living”.

Hyman has been an “apartner” herself for over 23 years and has conducted research on the topic for over

a decade.

In addition to the WSJ, Hyman has been interviewed about apartnering by ELLE magazine, Harper's Bazaar, Men’s Health Magazine, The Times UK, The Toronto Star, The Globe and Mail, The New York Post, Chatelaine Magazine, The Montreal Gazette, El Confidential, BBC World, Radio New Zealand, Radio Australia and The Guardian. Hyman was also commissioned by The NBC Today Show, The Globe and Mail and

Psychology Today to pen personal essays on the subject.

Her word “apart-ner” itself has gained international currency in

the media, with The Times in the UK even asking its readers:

“Would You be Happier with an Apartner?”.

In 2015 Sharon Hyman founded a global online community for apartners which has thousands of members worldwide, from every corner of the globe — the first of its kind.

Sharon holds several degrees, including a Master's degree in Educational Technology.

She lives happily ever apart from her spouse in Montreal, Canada.
